A question often asked by anxious airplane passengers is this: What is the safest seat in an airplane? The answer: none. Because accidents can erupt at any spot within the aircraft.
Some people are of the opinion that the nearer one is seated to an emergency exit, the safer one is. Sadly, that is not absolutely true. A fire can start near the emergency exit as in any place within the plane. And if the emergency exit is jammed, then the person sitting nearest it is in as much of the same fix as the one sitting farthest from it.
Regardless of where the passenger is seated inside the aircraft, the risks to one’s safety is greatly minimized by one thing above all else: by being alert and aware of one’s surroundings.
Being alert means being watchful and attentive. Note the location of all exits. Listen to all pre-flight and in-flight instructions. Do not drink too much. Use common sense and try not to do anything that will be detrimental to your own safety, as well as to that of others, such as having too many or too heavy carry-on luggage, spilling hot drinks, being careless with pointed objects or things with sharp edges, and the like. Again, use common sense.
Airplane accidents are rare, despite the fears and misgivings surrounding air travel. But if one does occur during the flight, it is very important for the passenger to stay calm and not to panic. Fear is a highly contagious disease. Many casualties in accidents, even those that happened on land, could have been prevented had the panic been contained. Thus, in case of an accident, take a deep breath, keep the tone of voice down and follow the line.
There is no such thing as the safest seat in the plane. But any passenger can always make his or hers the safest seat if he or she chooses to, wherever he or she is seated. Creating the sense of safety within one’s self, after all, is a mind game.

UFO Simply Means 'Unidentified' Flying Object

UFO Simply Means 'Unidentified' Flying Object
Word Count:
781
Summary:
A lot of people discuss UFOs as flying saucers - it seems to be the best description that they can come up with. Others suggest, rather dismissively, that UFO simply means unidentified flying object and that the light that someone saw flashing in the sky was either a plane, a helicopter or a reflection of light off of a cell phone tower or another metal object. Read on as we examine this phenomena with a critical eye...

Keywords:
ufo, ufos, unidentified flying object, unidentified flying objects, flying saucers, roswell, new mexico, alien, aliens, Rendlesham Forest, england,

Article Body:
What comes to mind when someone talks about a UFO? Do you think about the cover of a science fiction novel and the image of mysterious bluish lights beaming down from it? Do you think about a time when you were out late at night and you saw a flash of light, wondered what it was only to realize a moment later that what you saw wasn't a UFO - it was just the lights of a plane that was beginning its descent. Do you think of movies, or little green men, cartoons, or do you just turn away shaking your head?
A lot of people discuss UFOs as flying saucers - it seems to be the best description that they can come up with. Others suggest, rather dismissively, that UFO simply means unidentified flying object and that the light that someone saw flashing in the sky was either a plane, a helicopter or a reflection of light off of a cell phone tower or another metal object.
Reflections of light from a cell phone tower do little to explain away "mysterious materials" found in Roswell, New Mexico in the late 1940s. While the United States military has always stood their ground that these materials were merely fragments of a research balloon, a top secret test that ended badly, others offer another explanation. They assert that the materials were fragments of a UFO, an alien craft that crashed rather than safely landing. They believe that the "flying disc" - as it was called by military personnel - that was recovered could not be something from this world, and so began one of the most talked about UFO encounters in the world.
Many who believe that the UFO in Roswell, New Mexico deserved more attention than it was being given, believe that it wasn't something that could just be dismissed. In part, this is likely to have something to do with other stories surrounding the flying saucer. A farmer talked about having found materials miles away from Roswell, and the story was picked up by newspapers, accompanied by photos of the strange find - strips of rubber, something like aluminum foil, sticks. It's a story that has gained so much attention around the world that it has influenced many people's sense of alien life and alien visitations to earth.
If the Roswell, New Mexico story had never become so widespread, UFO and flying saucer may not be so common in our language, in our experiences and in novels, television programming and films. How common is it for people to see a UFO?
It's hard to say, really, because many people who see an unidentified flying object in the sky are reluctant to report it. Either the person who saw a UFO believes that there is a far more logical explanation or merely thinks that no one would believe them if they were to say anything about it. And yet, there are UFO sightings that are shared and that become the topic of conspiracy theories by those who believe that beings from other planets and galaxies have visited the earth.
One such incident occurred in 1980 in Rendlesham Forest in Suffolk, England. Those who saw the UFO all claimed to have seen flashing lights coming from an unidentified flying object that was descending towards the woods - a UFO that was roughly the size of a car and seemed to float on a beam of light. After reports were made about the object, it was discovered that trees were damaged, radio frequencies became nothing but static and soil samples later showed radioactive activity.
Similarly, in Gulf Breeze, Florida in 1987 tales of a UFO began to circulate when a man saw a strange light coming from his lawn. When he saw the flying saucer, he grabbed a camera and started shooting photos as proof of what he had seen. Of course, in this situation, the story was not just of a UFO sighting, but about repeated experiences and of the man's being beamed up onto the craft.
Though discussions of these UFO sightings continue, and there has been audio recordings and photo documentation, it is still difficult to know whether or not the unidentified flying objects were indeed from space. Many claimed, in regard to the Gulf Breeze, Florida UFO sightings, that the man had manipulated the photographs and fabricated the story.
In each case, both sides - the believers and the skeptics - find evidence to support their claims. Those who believe in UFOs and alien visitations cite facts that they claim cannot otherwise be explained. Those who are skeptical offer their own explanations along with their own supporting evidence. Which side is right? For now, that's up to you to decide.

Travel guide - UK airports - London Heathrow
In the second of our UK airport travel guides, we will focus on the world's busiest airport. London Heathrow.
Around 90 airlines use Heathrow as their hub, operating flights to over 180 destinations in 90 countries. Heathrow consists of four terminals, with a fifth currently under construction.
Terminal 1
All of Heathrow's UK and Ireland flights operate from this terminal as well as some flights to long haul destinations and Europe.
Terminal 2
This terminal caters for European destinations as well as some long haul destinations.
Terminal 3
Long haul operators are the bulk users of this terminal, although some flights to Europe also operate from here.
Terminal 4
This terminal is used almost exclusively by British Airways and KLM.
Getting there
Although London by name, Heathrow is not actually situated in the Capital. London Heathrow is approximately 20 miles from the centre of London and this needs to be taken into account when getting to the airport.
Getting to the airport is relatively easy by all means of transport. London Underground (Tube) trains on the Piccadilly line go direct to the airport, taking about an hour and costing approximately £5.
Heathrow Express offer a great direct rail link from London Paddington, with a journey time of about 15 minutes. Heathrow Express operate trains every 15 minutes from Paddington and from Heathrow with a single ticket costing £14 and a return for £26.
Railair operate good coach links from principal areas, including Reading, Woking and Watford.
If you intend to travel by car to Heathrow Airport, sufficient time should be allotted as it is served by the busy M4 and M25 motorways. Sufficient car parking is available at all terminals, but we recommend booking parking in advance. This could also save you money on car parking costs.
If you had planned to stay in a hotel the night before your flight, a Hotel Hoppa bus service operates from most of the major hotels surrounding the airport, priced at £3 each way. Services run every 15 minutes through most of the day.
London Heathrow is truly an International airport and the millions of passengers who use this airport each and every year, represent nationalities from all corners of the globe.

Top Four Things You Need to Know About Executive Jet Charters

Top Four Things You Need to Know About Executive Jet Charters
Word Count:
502
Summary:
All you need to know about chartering a private business jet in one easy to read article.

Keywords:
private, business, executive, jet, rentals, jets, rental, charter, airplane, aircraft, charters, chartering, airplanes

Article Body:
The airplane and jet charter business is increasingly becoming more accessible and easier to use for the mid to small business industry. Even in the face of rising fuel costs and the ease of meeting via video and web-conferencing, many companies are still flying their top executives around the country, or even the world, to attend their important meetings. If a company does not own their own business jet, rather than flying their CEO’s business or first-class on commercial flights, the increasing trend has become to charter a private executive business jet.
Why Charter a Private Business Airplane?
The following are four reasons why chartering an executive business aircraft makes good business sense:
In Flight Security - Chartering an executive business jet provides a higher level of personal security that cannot be found on most of the commercial airlines today. Don’t forget that when you fly on a chartered private executive aircraft, you are renting the entire jet, not just one seat. This is why you can be sure of much greater security in terms of the protection of sensitive business information. You won’t have to worry about why the guy in the seat behind you frantically scribbling away in a notebook as your meeting is going on.
Efficiency - Chartered private executive airplane passengers will save more time during departure by having direct access to the aircraft instead of waiting in long lines at the airport security screenings. Not only that, but because it is possible for the jet to wait for you at the arrival location you can depart on your own timetable. It is possible to conduct a meeting in the early afternoon and still be home in time for dinner allowing you to be back to work the following morning.

Simplicity - It is now easier than ever before to charter an executive business aircraft. One of the easiest ways of finding an aircraft charter company is on the internet. However you can also search for aircraft charter brokers who act as your private charter jet liaison and can assist you in locating the best charter company that will suit your requirements.
Status Symbol - One of the biggest bonuses offered to quite a few prized CEO's is the use of the company jet. Many companies are noticing this, and to remain competitive in recruiting talent they have to offer the best perks. Chartering a private executive business jet has become the trend with several mid-sized businesses that can’t afford to purchase their own company jet. Yet another example why the aircraft charter business is on the increase.
It may sound more expensive at first, but this can be an excellent business decision. The jet will leave when you want it to leave, and depart from, or arrive at, an airport of your choice, while avoiding the stress caused by long security delays. Furthermore, depending upon the amount of passengers, the actual price tag of chartering business aircrafts can be comparable to that of any scheduled commercial flight.

Top 10 Fear of Flying Power Statements

Top 10 Fear of Flying Power Statements

A fearful flyer who is about to board a plane doesn't usually remember a single fact or figure about the safety of air travel. That fearful flyer is more concerned about whether they can get on the plane without having a nervous breakdown and desperately wanting to know they'll make it safely to their destination so they can get back OFF the plane.

That's what happens to me when I'm boarding a plane. I'm wild-eyed, desperate, panicky and not listening to any reasonable thing my flying companion is telling me. When I'm boarding a plane I need a cheat sheet; a quick reference guide of simple statements that I know to be true but am unable to think of on my own. Here are some from my personal list:

1. There are millions of people on thousands of flights EVERY DAY that are very routine and never make the news.
2. The plane was designed to be in the air, that's where it performs best.
3. Air is a thick fluid, a lot like jello. The plane is being supported by big columns of "jello air". It has substance even though I can't see it.
4. Turbulence in a plane is like being in a car going over a bump in the road. It doesn't hurt the plane. The wings will not fall off.
5. The plane is designed to handle more stress than any normal flying situation will deliver.
6. The pilots and flight crew do this every day, the sky is their office, they are professionals.
7. The pilots go through extensive repetitive training for every possible situation, even ones I haven't thought of.
8. The plane has many backup systems and is capable of flying safely with several systems not functions perfectly.
9. The sounds I hear are normal and mean the plane is functioning correctly.
10. This flight will not last forever, I will get through it one minute at a time and then I will enjoy my destination.
Sometimes one statement has more meaning than another, it depends on which fear is bothering me the most. It can help to repeat the important points over and over. Focus on them. Make them real. I imagine myself as the pilot just going to his job; a job that he worked hard for, he dearly loves and cares deeply about. He loves to fly, and he's going to deliver me to my destination and then turn around and take more people to their destination. I am just one of millions of people that will fly today.
Repeating these statements over and over helps me to come back to reality and out of my fog of fear. Your top 10 statements may be different. Some of them may be the same. As a fellow fearful flyer I know how hard it is to remember the facts that gave you comfort while in your living room. That's why I'm always sure to take my cheat sheet of power statements with me on every flight.

Tips while you travel through Southwest Airlines

Tips while you travel through Southwest Airlines

Summary:
Your travel shall be a pleasure if you follow some tips while you plan out your traveling through southwest airlines.

Keywords:
southwest airline,  southwest airline reservation, southwest airline flight,  southwest airline fare, southwest airline ticket, southwest airline special

Article Body:
If you reside in the south west or you have to travel to the southwest, most of the times you travel through Southwest Airlines. You can take help of the south west airline guide to know all the available flights and the arrival and departure time as well the fares and all the necessary information related to your travel. But to save some bucks and make your travel easier, you need to follow some tips.
 1. You should seek for the best fares available for a travel program and because these are very time limited you need to decide fast that which one will be good for you. You can plan in advance for your travel visit and check out the website of the airlines or help guide so as to save many bucks of yours.
2. You can also join the Southwest Frequent Traveler Program whereby if you have to make frequent visits with southwest you can buy tickets for your short trips and use the free tickets that you will earn for your longer and expensive trips.
3.Since Southwest finds that boarding is better and takes less time when they board the travelers in groups, they doesn’t assign seats. You have groups namely A, B and C where A is the best group that gives you a chance to board first. You can also make more seating selection and can also assure a bin for your carry on luggage when you get the A-status. You would get a C- status that will end up you in a middle seat or you have to check your carry on luggage.
 4. The pilot of the airlines stands below the Jetway before the incoming flight arrives and you need to queue up before some time the flight arrives. If you stand half an hour before the arriving flight, you should find your place next to a seat in the boarding area but this works when your place in the queue or line happens to be next to a seat.
 5. Sometimes you will need to wait to get your pass. You can obtain a pass by paying a small fee to some companies that assist you in reserving your pass in advance.
6. Before the general boarding, children of the age group in between five to eleven who are not accompanied by elders, adults traveling with any child below the age of five and people with physical disabilities are allowed for a pre board. As such, when you make your reservation and check in you should provide your personal or special status.
7. Previously you had to print your boarding pass at home even if it was midnight before you travel but now they have a 24 hour window that provides you with printed boarding passes.
8. You need to weigh your luggage prior you proceed to board in the flight and since there are certain luggage policies you are allowed to carry small personal size briefcase or purse with you and you need to place large items in the overhead bins. In case you had a C status and all the bins are filled up you will have to check your carry on luggage.
9. You should try to reach on time and while you board go directly to your chosen row, set your luggage and sit down instead of chatting with your friends. When the plane fills yup, you can head to back and never backtrack. Don’t carry heavy luggage that you can’t lift up to the overhead bin because at that moment you yourself are responsible for settling down your luggage.
10.  You can avail gifts and discounts while you are on the board as you get some discount coupons and can get rapid rewards and credits that you can use in your later travel.

Tips to buy discount air tickets

Tips to buy discount air tickets
Word Count:
410
Summary:
Know the basic tips on how to save money while you book your airline ticket and make your travel smarter and easier.

Keywords:
southwest airline,  southwest airline reservation, southwest airline flight,  southwest airline fare, southwest airline ticket, southwest airline special

Article Body:
When you buy airline tickets online, these are the cheapest because the airlines sell 7 to 100 seats in each flight to the contracted online vendors. Most of the discount airline tickets are non refundable and non transferable so once you book the ticket you go.
You need to keep the following tips in mind before your vacation trip and flights:
 1.  The best online airfare deals could be found on Wednesdays from midnight to around five in the morning.
2.  You need to consider the time of year because summer is a high season and another peak travel period is during Christmas and New Year so if you want to have discounted airfare during this time, it would be hard for you. On the contrary, if you travel during off season you would be able to get airlines tickets at discounted rates because less people are traveling at that time.
3.If you have some flexibility with your dates, choose a later date such as instead of January 2 go for January 4 and avoid holidays would be best for you. The earlier you book the ticket, the more you can save.
 4.  In case you travel on a major holiday, it would save you a lot for example if you pay for a ticket on the Christmas Day you will get cheaper rates because majority of the people would be at his destination at that time. Online booking with the website of the airlines can save your time and money with ensured advance booking.
5.  If you want a one way ticket instead of return ticket then make sure that you check the return rate but in most cases traveling both ways will be cheaper for you.
6. Weekends are also expensive than other weekdays because many people plan short trips during that time.
 7. If you are looking for online discounts always check different websites that offer various range of prices and have different policies and approaches. You can also take the help of a travel agent who can make a good deal for you.
 8.  Try to fly with the same airlines each time because then you can build up flyer points and miles that you can redeem for free airline tickets.
You can get other relevant airlines reservation and travel information from airlines guide and online websites.

Over the last five years Europe has seen an increase in the number of low cost airlines which is great news for the holidaymaker, but many say bad news for the high street travel agent.
I remember a friend looking to take her husband away for the weekend to Dublin, Ireland and went to a high street travel agent. She was given a quote of £300 for a weekend, including flights and accommodation - book the same flight with Ryanair and a hotel in the centre of Dublin direct with the hotel, and the weekend actually cost her only £190 again including flights and accommodation - a saving of £110.
Here are my tips for searching low cost airline tickets;
Book in plenty of time
The later you leave it the more expensive the flight becomes, most airlines charge more if you book the ticket a few days or even a week before you want to departure, so the earlier you book it the cheaper the flight will cost.
Weekend departures
If you book your flight for the weekend then the ticket will cost you more money, as most people travel at the weekend, so try and book the flight departure during the week, and not only will your flight be cheaper but you’ll probably find that they will be more accommodation special offers
Travel agent flight booking
Don’t book your flight through a travel agent, simply because you’ll be charged more than booking direct with the airline - you have to remember that the travel agents in most cases add on commission to the flight, they have to make a living, but why should you pay more.
Travel out of school holidays
Like weekend departures flight prices increase during the school or bank holidays, so where you can try and book your flight during the school term.
Late night / Early morning flights
To save the most money when booking your airline ticket, book a flight either late at night or in the early hours of the morning, this is where the best savings are made, simply because of the unsocial flying times.

So when you decide to hire a private jet, do your research and find out all the necessary information and then make an informed decision. After all you are spending huge bucks to charter a private jet. So why not choose the best of the lot?

A life of adventure - doing what you love and getting paid for it – does this sound interesting to you? Maybe if you’re thinking about a career change you should think about heading to Alaska to be a float plane pilot or a bush pilot.
At the very least it’s an excellent summer vacation idea if you can’t manage the career change right now. These pilots live lives that most of us will only dream of. Think of it this way if you have to justify the change to your significant other: when it’s really hot and humid where you live during the summer you are pretty much guaranteed relief from the heat in the form of lower temperatures if you’re in Alaska! That should definitely get you to at least the “I’ll think about it” stage with them (if you’re lucky).
Fast forward to what your life would be like in the winter. Imagine the adrenaline rush of flying over a glacier and then landing on an icy lake with skis on your plane. No brakes here…all you’ve got is your wits and some luck!
Are you looking for some more “subtle” adventure? You could fly charter flights the rest of the year into the wilderness and drop people off for a day of fishing, hiking, nature-watching or the like and then head back at the end of the day to pick them up and take them back to civilization. Talk about the ideal job for a pilot!
There are thousands of lakes in Alaska that you can land on, or if you prefer you can put your tundra tires to work and find a flat spot to land in the wilderness. Bust out “The Claw” and leave your plane to go do some exploring of your own! The cool thing about this particular tiedown is that it’s not only super-portable but the more your plane pulls on it the deeper it pulls into the ground, keeping it safe from those renegade tornadoes that keep threatening to swoop your little investment away!
There is some sort of fancy mathematical equation for how “The Claw” works, and if you want to work it out you can go right ahead. For the rest of us, trust me, this contraption is very cool. It’s easy to take with you because it breaks down and even has its own storage bag.
However, there are always two sides to every story…living in Alaska means that you probably aren’t going to see most of your family as often as you’d like (or if it’s the in-laws that might not be such a bad thing, right?) and every day in your plane isn’t necessarily going to be idyllic.
If you have a job flying you are going to have to be out in all sorts of weather; much of it as far from ideal conditions as you can imagine. You’ll have to have a lot of training and experience as well as the guts to keep going when you know that you really shouldn’t. Not to mention that when you turn a hobby into a job you run the risk of losing the excitement and reward that you get out of it.
If you still are interested at this point and I haven’t dissuaded you then probably you are going to make a go of it “by hook or by crook.” Good for you!
Things that you will need for your trip:
1. Plane
2. Maps
3. Tiedown
4. Willing victim to tag along
5. Warm clothes
6. Camera
7. Floats (weather-permitting)
8. Skis (weather-permitting)
9. A guide who knows where the best places are to check out
Overall, the idea of spending time in Alaska with your family, (or just alone with your plane if you’re that type of person) can be a reality for most anybody. All it takes is some research, a little bit of planning, and before you know it you’re off on an adventure that will be well worth writing home about!

Tips for a convenient, safe and smooth flight journey

Tips for a convenient, safe and smooth flight journey
Word Count:

Summary:
There are several things considering which you can ensure a safe, smooth and convenient air journey for yourself.

Keywords:
southwest airline,  southwest airline reservation, southwest airline flight,  southwest airline fare, southwest airline ticket, southwest airline special

Article Body:
There are many important things by considering which you can easily make your air travel more easy, convenient and smooth.
 1.   You should select your seat before you fly
The worst thing is to arrive at the airport where they only have a middle seat and you like to have a window seat. So try to book the seat online because nowadays almost each airline has its website whereby you can get online seating chart to choose from when you book your flight.
 2.   You should discuss your meal options before you fly
If you are a vegetarian or have your own special dietary needs, you should talk with your travel booking agent so that the airlines could make some adjustments. Some airlines also have the option whereby you can state your personal menu requirements online at the time of booking.
  3. Its better if you bring your own snack food
If you carry your own snack food with yourself it would suit you in case you don’t favor the snacks provided on board.
 4.   You can carry water with you
If you have your water along with you it would be great to dehydrate yourself on a flight to re-hydrate yourself on a flight and it is so important for your health too.
 5.  Try to move in the cabin
If you stretch your legs and move about in the cabin when you can and staying mobile for hours on one end wont do any wonders for your muscles.
6.   See for yourself
If you are wearing contact lenses then it would be better if you wear glasses while in the flight as your eyes will dry out and become red because of the altitude.
 7.  Take your shoes off
Your feet shall swell during the flight and as such it would be great if you give them freedom and room but you should not take off the socks unless you get some feedback from the cabin.
8   One tag at a time
You should not leave your previous flight baggage tags on your baggage.
 9.   Wear comfortable clothing
You should wear comfortable clothes and the best suggestion would be a t-shirt and comfortable loose pants.
 10.   You can even bring some games
It might be possible that there is no movie or music arrangement in the flight and as such it would be in your favor if you bring some entertaining games with you.

Theres Much More to a Great Trip Than Cheap Flights List Deals

Before you can work your groove on vacation or holiday, you must learn to plan!

Keywords:

Article Body:
Well you've spent numerous hours shopping online and calling up your travel agent to get the best airfare deals for your vacation. Now you are tired and all you want to do is sit on a couch and watch some good old-fashioned TV. However there's only one big problem now, you haven't finished planning anything yet!
Yes folks getting the best inexpensive airfare- although it is a very crucial step, is just one many steps that you should consider at the very least when planning the itinerary for your vacation.
Let's face it we're all tired out, whether it's from work, or in our personal lives, or even play (like those all nighter card games you have with the boys or girls), we all need vacations every now and then or our brains will all but stop functioning properly.
Going on a vacation is a very fun and relaxing activity for everyone. The projecting portion of it should not be that stressful or difficult for anyone. Remember planning your vacation should be considered part of the fun as opposed to actual work or drudgery.
Consider planning together with your best friends over coffee or dinner. If you are bound, then set a goal for your vacation (i.e. to become more cultured, to eat exotic foods, to go on a shopping spree, etc) and then work your way backwards step by step.
Don't worry about being perfect though because after this process you'll have the basic plans necessary to begin living your own vacation and in a way that you will never forget. Planning ahead will exponentially improve the your ability to connect with those you go on vacation with whether it's with family or friends.
Do you remember your goal setting class in college? Well guess what- that's the very first thing you need to set for yourself -- a goal for your vacation! It may seem obvious why a person wants to go on a vacation but the truth is this- there are many ways to go about it and you can get various results based on how you plan from the outset. For instance you may not get the same results if you plan a vacation around Las Vegas versus a vacation around family friendly Disney World.

Article Body:
There are a few fears in life that defy logic. Fear of spiders may be one, fear of lifts is another, and perhaps a fear of flying is another. Everyday, thousands of planes take off around the world, carrying millions of passengers safely to their destination. Flying is one of the safest, if not the safest, form of travel available. It is far safer than getting in the car, yet over one third of the population still report a fear of flying.
People cite many concerns when they talk of their fear of flying. Many report a lack of confidence in the air traffic control system and fear that a simple mistake on the ground can lead to disaster in the air. Then there are fears of faults with the plane itself. Most people saw the pictures of the concord crash a few years ago and when you’re sitting on an airplane, a few feet from the massive jet engines humming steadily, it seems very hard to believe that nothing could go wrong with such a machine. In fact the very shape and appearance of airplanes does little to inspire confidence in passengers who already are having doubts about the airworthiness of the plane.
Then there are the reports and press attention of the troubles of deep vein thrombosis.
The fact of the matter however, is that flying is extremely safe. It is one of the wonders of technology that air travel, with all the multitude of potential failures, keep delivering flight after flight, on time and without a hitch. In fact, in contrast to almost all other forms of travel, air travel is becoming safer and safer every year.
The statistics speak for themselves. Do you know what the chances are of having a single fatality on a flight? Well according to the BBC, it is 1 in 16 million. And in the vast majority of accidents where there are fatalities, more than half of the other passengers survive. What this means is that even if you defy all the odds and are on one of the few unlucky flights that does crash, you are still more likely to survive than die in the accident.
However, there is one issue with air travel that the statistics don’t commend so highly. Delays, lost luggage and missing flights are still frequent issues that plague passengers. Luckily, all of these can be covered for with some good, comprehensive travel insurance.

The Early History of British Airways

The Early History of British Airways

In one form or another, British Airways have been offering flights around the world for more than 80 years.  In this article, we look at the history behind one of the world’s biggest airlines.

Article Body:
In 1919, as Europe emerged from the First World War, travel moved into the forefront of people’s minds.  Buoyed up on the new technologies of the day, the forerunner of BA, Aircraft Transport and Travel (AT&T), launched the world's first daily international scheduled air service.  It offered a service from London to Paris and ushered in the modern age of air travel.
Within 5 years there were already a handful of start-up airlines offering their services in Britain. In March 1924, the four best known of these: Handley Page, Instone, AT&T, and British Air Marine Navigation merged into one larger company called Imperial Airways and offered flights around the British Empire.
As Imperial Airways grew in size, it became a forerunner of a modern airline, offering flights to countries all across the world including Canada and Australia, and competed effectively with the Airships that dominated the era.
In 1935, a rival arrived on the scene.  British Airways Ltd was formed from a number of small privately owned companies and quickly developed into a company of similar size.  By 1939, just before the Second World War broke out, the British Government nationalised the two airlines and created a new, government owned agency known as the British Overseas Airways Corporation or BOAC for short.
The final stage in these early decades of BA came in 1949, when BOAC was separated into two separate entities: British European Airways, which carried out short haul flights into Europe, and BOAC, which continued to serve the rest of the world.  These two siblings served the world at the beginning of the jet age in the 1950s, and became iconic leaders of British innovation.
By the 1970s, fuel costs and industrial concerns over economy saw the government of the day decide that the two companies had become bloated and inefficient and by 1974, after a 4 year process, the tow companies came together as one: British Airways, just in time for the birth of the supersonic age with the Concorde in 1976.

Since decades, Canada and Hong Kong maintains a close as well as long standing trade and economic relationship. The socio-economic and trading relationship of Canada and Hong Kong can be traced back to 1928, when Canada formed its Consulate General in Hong Kong, in Exchange Building, on the Pedder Street. Indeed, Canada is regarded as one of the largest trading partners of Hong Kong. It is estimated that more than 150 Canadian businesses operate in Hong Kong, which includes firms specializing in information technology, construction and engineering, financial services, and insurance as well as intermediary services.
Apart from this, more than 450 Canadian business firms are represented by agents, distributors, and joint venture partners, which in turn have led to the formation of the largest Canadian overseas business community in Asia. Bank of Montreal, Crown Life Insurance, Air Canada, and Manulife, are just few among many of the leading as well as thriving Canadian business firms that conduct their business functions in Hong Kong. As per certain records, the turnover as a result of economic partnership between Hong Kong and Canada was C$5.6 billion in 2006. In short, it has been accounted that more than 2, 50,000 citizens from Canada happily reside and work in Hong Kong. In fact, with more than 1,200 members, the Hong Kong’s Canadian Chamber of Commerce is considered the largest outside Canada.
Reciprocally, many people from Hong Kong also live and conduct their businesses in Canada, especially in such Canadian areas as Vancouver, Toronto, and Richmond. The close as well as strong relationship of Hong Kong and Canadian cities, particularly Vancouver, has led to vivacious economic partnership between two nations. Both Hong Kong and British Columbia are considered the gateways. When Hong Kong serves as the gateway to Asia, Vancouver serves as the gateway for Asian business firms to have access to the trendy markets in the North America. The close relationship of Canada and Hong Kong is further substantiated by Canada’s supporting of the context developed by Hong Kong, ‘one country, two systems,’ which in turn is embodied in the basic law. In addition, the Fraser Institute, based in Vancouver, has consistently ranked Hong Kong as the world’s freest economy and that too for almost 13 years.
Hong Kong and Canada not only maintains a close relationship in economic as well as trading but also in schooling and education. For instance, according to certain records, one in five students from Hong Kong prefers to stay and study in Canada. Besides, many students from Canada also study in Hong Kong, whose evidence is the large number of Canadian international schools that operate in Hong Kong. This in turn has helped in strengthening the relationship between Hong Kong and Canadian people. Apart from schooling and education, Hong Kong and Canada also preserve a close relationship in sectors such as construction and food production areas.
Understanding the importance of the close relationship of Vancouver and Hong Kong, nowadays many airlines operate convenient as well as budget flights between Hong Kong and Vancouver. Of which, one of the prominent airlines is Oasis Hong Kong, which is considered the first to enter the budget airline sector. With six direct flights from Vancouver to Hong Kong a week, Oasis Hong Kong’s prime aim is to bridge the distance between Hong Kong and Canada, thereby enabling for enhanced tourism and trade as well as commerce between these two great amazing centers. Oasis Hong Kong operates flights to Hong Kong from both Vancouver and London in UK. A specialty of this airline is that it provides impeccable customer services coupled with high degree of comfort and that too at cheap rates. Almost all superb facilities are available while your travel from Vancouver to Hong Kong, such as, comfortable seats, personal seat back TVs, and two complimentary delicious meals, with a choice of Western or Asian styles. Further, Oasis Hong Kong recently declared that it provides opportunities for the kid, aged 11 or younger, to travel when accompanied by an eligible adult. However, bookings should be made within a stipulated time period.

Anyone who has held their hand out of a car into the wind to play airplane already has a fundamental impression of control surfaces on the airplane.
When the heel of the palm went down, the airpressure under the hand pushed the hand up. That's called lift. The airflow over/under the hand changes with the shape of the hand or airfoil. If you had little cut-outs near your wrist, there wouldn't be as much lift.
The tail section contains control surfaces for keeping the plane stable and controllable.
1) Horizontal: The horizontal, non-moving part is called the stabilizer, and it prevents uncontrolled up-and-down motion of the nose. The small hinged sections on each side are called elevators, which work in unison. It is controlled by the cockpit control wheel/stick and increases or decreases lift. When forward pressure is applied on the wheel, the elevators move downward, which increases the length of the tail causing more lift, which forces the tail upward, causing the nose to drop. There is also a small hinged section in the elevator which is controlled by a small vertical wheel on the cockpit console which is used to finetune the elebator trim. Hense the name trim tab.
2) Vertical: The vertical non-moving part which prevents the nose from uncontrolled swinging side to side. The large hinged section is the rudder. The rudder is controlled by the foot pedals in the cockpit, and deflects the tail to the right or left.
The wings generate most of the lift to hold the plane in the air. Different models of aircraft will have wings of different shapes and in different vertical locations. On a Cessna, the wing is high, and on a Piper, it is low. On an F14, the can change from a forward angle to "swept back".
On most small planes, the wings also carry the fuel.
There are many control surfaces on a wing:
1) The aileron is the hinged part of the back of the wing towards the tip which is used to roll the wings from side to side. There is one on each side of the plane and they work opposite of each other. When one moves up, the other moves down.
2) Flaps are the hinged sections on the back of the wing near the fuselage. Flaps are deployed downward on takeoff and landing to increase the lift produced by the wing and allows the plane to fly at slower speeds.
3) Spoilers and Slats are used on high performance/commercial aircraft and also changed the aerodynamics of the wing.

Safety is a foremost concern of any traveler, regardless of whether the trip is for business or for pleasure. Never has this need been more emphasized until recently, in light of 9/11 and of the latest bombings in London. These attacks have somewhat made people wary of traveling, especially traveling by airplane.
However, despite these risks, the US Federal Aviation Administration claims that airline accidents are rare, with the odds of death about 1 to 7 million. Most airplane disasters occur usually during the plane’s takeoff, climb, descent or landing.
To minimize safety risks passengers face during travel by air, the following measures are recommended:
Fly non-stop. Since airline accidents occur mostly on takeoff, climb, descent or landing, flying non-stop avoids these as much as possible. Not all direct flights are non-stop, though, so it is best to check with one’s travel agent.

Fly on larger aircrafts. The design and certification of aircrafts with a seating capacity of at least 30 are strictly regulated. The chances of passenger survival in case of fatal accidents are also higher in larger aircrafts.

Pay attention to the pre-flight briefing. The information given on pre-flight briefings tend to be repetitious, but it still pays to listen to them. The seating and layout of an aircraft depends on what kind of aircraft it is, so the location of the exits differs as well.

Avoid storing heavy articles in overhead storage bins. Overhead storage bins may not be able to hold heavy articles during turbulence. Heavy items should therefore be stored elsewhere.

Keep your seatbelt on. As in any vehicle, seatbelts provide additional protection for the passenger. This is especially helpful when turbulence occurs.

Listen to the flight attendants. Airlines employ flight attendants not only to serve passengers but also to ensure safety within the aircraft. It is best to listen to what they have to say first before one starts complaining or asking questions.

Do not bring hazardous materials in the aircraft. Some materials such as gas and corrosives react differently in the contained and pressurized interior of the aircraft. If allowed by the airline, these materials should be stored in their proper containers.

Do not drink too much. Alcohol has a stronger effect on the body in higher altitudes than at sea level.

Wear sensible clothing. It is advised that clothes made of natural fiber should be worn when flying because synthetic fabrics melt onto a person’s skin and cause more serious burns. Women should also take care not to wear high heels when flying.

Stay alert. It is important to keep one’s wits about one’s self in case of emergencies so there would be less panic and people would be able to get out of the aircraft more quickly and efficiently.

There are many websites that offer membership schemes where if you become a member you will be intimated of the best deals that are available for every week. You will get email offers from them about the inexpensive air fares available. You can use these offers to get cheap air fares. Lot of people are getting benefited with this kind of membership. If you are a frequent traveler then you can look for this option.
Most of the airlines offer sudden offers that might go unnoticed by many of us. The offers could be on any special occasion or a season. So it is better to check the websites of these airlines often to see whether there is any offer available for the destination chosen by you. Check out the offers by the airlines before you approach any agent for booking your tickets.
Some of the websites have tie ups with the airlines so that if you book through their websites you get some discounts in the actual air fare. Sometimes if you club your tickets for different destinations in a single purchase you might get some excellent discounts. Some websites allow you to bid for a ticket and if you bid is accepted then you get it at the discounted rates. When you bid it is better to check the actual rates and quote a price that is lower than the actual by at least 25%.
Group tours are some way to reduce your expenses during travel since a group of people are involved in booking. Due to bulk booking some travels may get you a reduced fare for such group tours. Some of the destinations may not attract tourist during a particular season. If you can make a trip during that season you can get reduced air fares. Off season booking always gives your reduced fares. Not only fares you also get some facilities free of cost such as pick up and drop from the airport to the hotels of your choice.
Try these methods to get inexpensive air fares so that you can have a good vacation with your family in some exotic locations.

One common goal for people all over the world is trying to find ways to save money on flying. It is common knowledge that flying is a particularly expensive way of traveling, yet it is one of the most common, safest, and fastest method available in the world today. Unless you travel frequently for business purposes and your company pays all your airfares, it is you that will have to worry about the costs of flying. There are a wide range of things you could do to reduce the amount of money you will have to spend on air fare.
First, you should always be flexible in your plans, this will help you get the best available and lowest rate. Often some of the cheapest flights will limit the dates or days you are able to travel. For example, you may save money by agreeing to travel on a weekday or late night travel. Flexibility will allow you to save a great deal of money most times.
You should also plan as far ahead as you possible can. Many airlines only set aside a limited number of seats on the most desired flights at a lower fare. This means that these bargains will set out at a quicker rate than the others will. On the opposite side of the coin, if one of their flights does not sell as they expected it to; an airline will generally make more of those seats available at a discounted rate in order to sell more seats.
Generally, planning ahead is the cardinal rule of air travel, however sometimes you will find a sale of fare’s. Airlines typically run a sale and put great seats at a discount many time each year. It is hard to know exactly when the sales will happen, but they generally come at a time when travel is less likely. These times could be in the early fall or just after a major holiday.
One major factor in costs is the specific airport you intend to depart from. You should shop the different area airports and routes, while looking for the best deal. You could also consider making use of a travel agent. Travel agents are usually a great source of deals and discounts that you would likely not be able to get anywhere else. Another massive avenue is the internet. Make use of the vast expanse of the internet, to gain “internet only” deals. These deals would not be made available to anyone except internet users.

Rome airport management and airline competition in the european countries.

Rome airport management and airline competition in the european countries.

General overview of Rome airport management.

rome airport transfer

Article Body:
Airport management practices can be distinguished from two different perspectives. Firstly, an entity can manage airports as an integrated network. On the contrary, airports can be managed by an autonomous entity that is responsible for a low number of airports. Secondly, airport authorities can be owned either by public institutions, by private firms or a mix of both.
These practices have a wide range of effects on the ability of an airport authority to attract the most convenient airlines for it. In addition to this, any competitive airline strategy depends fundamentally on airport access. In this way, Rome airport management trends to have effects on airline and italian airports competition. Although international services are still highly regulated, it can be said that travelers enjoy currently of a greater choice of alternatives to chose, a higher service frequency and low prices.
There is a consensus that the achievement, maintenance or increase of these benefits in the post- liberalization period depends fundamentally on the existence of an effective competition on the route. Most airports in the EU, like Rome airports, have been traditionally considered as public service organizations and most of them have not escaped from privatization policies implemented in the last decades; since 1996, and particularly in the recent years, a range of different airport ownership types have arisen due to the different historical and political approaches of EU countries so that it is possible to find any type of airport  ownership model in these areas.
This fact makes of great interest to study the EU case, taking into account that airport finance and airline access to airports follow common features all over the world with the important exception of US.

The demand and popularity of private corporate jets has been on the rise in the aftermath of terrorist attacks.  Read on to know why business community is turning to private jet charter services….

Article Body:
Thanks to the growing security chaos at the airports, companies now increasingly prefer to travel through private charter jets.
According to a survey conducted by Air Charter Guide, there was an 80 percent increase in business-related bookings of private jet charters within two weeks of Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks when commercial airlines were hijacked to ram into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Similarly, private jet service companies reported a rise in demand from their customers, both old and new, following a terror alert in the UK.
Following 9/11 and the subsequent increase in terror threats, stringent security checks at the airports have made the whole experience of traveling even more frustrating and exhausting.
One has to endure long queues, all kinds of checks and intimate body searches to board an aircraft. Confiscation of even petty things such as nail clippers and tweezers has become a common sight at the airports.
Hence, when we explore the reasons why more and more people are now preferring to travel by private charters flights instead of commercial flights, despite the obvious difference between costs, the reasons are quite a few:
• In the wake of terrorist attacks, security is unquestionable. In a private air charter, you know exactly who the pilot is, what type of baggage is on board and who the fellow passengers; if any, on the flight are. This provides the much needed peace of mind.
• Time is money for business travelers. Private charters have become even more popular among top corporate executives whose time is too valuable to waste in long queues. There is no question of delayed or cancelled flights; as the private flight is scheduled only at the time you want. In fact some organizations don’t mind spending an extra bit on arranging private jets for their senior staff too apart from their top executives.
• Private flights enable the optimum utilization of time and ensure confidentiality. You can work on your laptops, conduct meetings; just about everything in the sky that you can do on the ground in your office. Fax, e-mail, phones, computers; everything is easily accessible.
• Private charter flights maximize the productivity of the employees by saving their valuable time.
Apart from business honchos, an increasing number of common people are also considering private flights as a preferred alternative to commercial flights.
Charter-aircraft operators now claim that as many as 90 percent of their inquiries are from new or first-time charter customers.
Apart from convenience, privacy and comfort, private air charter also provides better protection and security in these chaotic times.

Summary:
PEOPLExpress Airlines was the darling of the airline industry twenty years ago before being absorbed into present day Continental Airlines. Like so many discount carriers after it, the airline took risks that ultimately spelled its demise. Much like PEOPLExpress Airlines, the recent demise of Independence Air shows the flying public how risky these ventures really are.

I got my start working in the flying industry while attending <strong>Ramapo College of New Jersey</strong> in the early 1980s.  At that school, they had posted an opportunity to work as a "co-op" student for an airline based at EWR. <strong>PEOPLExpress Airlines</strong> was the name and they needed students to handle reservations at their Haynes Avenue facility, which was really the UAL building.
For $5.00 per hour I took the bait and worked from February to August 1984. The job was tedious, the phone system antiquated, the company was a calamity. Still, it was fun and I enjoyed my occassional trips over to the old hangar to watch aircraft take off.
The reservations department was manned by other college students just like me from schools all over New Jersey and New York City. There was even a team of girls who came down from Canada to staff the phones as part of their school's program. I would have loved to see what they wrote on their reports!
A group of reservations would often take the first flight of the day to Boston, have breakfast, and return to Newark. I think they did this on a weekly basis and "Breakfast in Boston" was the thing to do. With 19 flights daily, including some leaving every half hour, the chance of snagging a flight to Boston was almost a guarantee.
I learned about some of the "tricks" of the airline industry too while with PEOPLExpress. For example, if bad weather was happening in Maine,  the final flight from EWR would mysteriously be canceled due to a mechanical.  Supposedly, the company didn't want to risk a problem with their notorious "hub and spoke" system and find that one of their aircraft was stuck in a snowstorm. We weren't told by our supervisors that this was what the airline was doing, but we pretty much figured it out. It was simply great handling those irate calls!
While at PEOPLExpress, I witnessed some phenomenal growth on the airline's part. We added San Francisco, Los Angeles, and London while I was there. Other smaller cities too.
During one month I was named "associate of the month" for my team because of my terrific customer service skills combined with my ability to process customers fast. Okay, so I like to remember it that way! Still, it was a nice thing to add to my resume and it also enabled me to gain "favor" in the site of management. My supervisor, Judith, was one of the nicest of the lot too...some CSMs were real bears!
Although it wasn't common, some students upon graduation got to work for PEOPLExpress as a Customer Service Manager [CSM]. This was a fancy name for a "flight attendant" who, when not flying, was expected to pull administrative duty too. Their starting pay was $17,000. per year, but the stock options were what really made the job. I am not sure how employees made out when the carrier came to an end in 1987, but I seem to recall some fairly well off "twenty somethings" working for that carrier.
After leaving PEOPLExpress I pursued other opportunities and did not return to aviation until 1992 when I started working for Executive Air Fleet,  Inc.  Yes, that is another story...for another time!

Private jet planes are the new status symbol to show that you are one of the richest people in the world. Everyone seems to be buying private jets now. All of these jets are being completely gutted and redone inside and out. Not too long ago, it was a big deal for a person to own a small propeller plane with about ten seats in it. Now many very famous and rich people are buying large jumbo jets and turning them into hotels and clubs in the air. I think that the movie Soul Plane helped to shed some light on and poke some fun at this growing trend of “pimping” out private jet planes. This movie went a little overboard on the types of accessories that most people would put in their private jet plane, but it also showed some of the things that people actually do have in their private jets.
There have been many news stories about celebrities buying private jet planes for millions of dollars, and then spending two or three times more to get the planes designed and furnished exactly the way that they want them. Most of the time in these large jumbo jet planes, the seating will be completely removed, and other amenities will be put in their place. Some of the time the seating in the plane goes from three hundred to about twenty five. However the twenty five seats that are still available are usually recliners or sofas, which will make any trip much more enjoyable. Also these private jet planes usually have some sort of bedroom, maybe a bar, and sometimes even a dance floor built-in. Others have a dining table, many televisions, chandeliers, and other accessories to make the private plane feel like home.
Personally, I believe that all of this extravagance is a bit too much, but I think that people should be able to spend their money in whatever way they see fit. So if anyone out there would like to invite me to take a ride on one of these over extravagant private jet planes, I think I would not have a problem saying yes, and go along for the ride. Anyone wanna make me an offer?

Can't bear to leave the family pet in a kennel and don't want your trusted companion stuck in commercial's cargo section?   No need to worry.   One benefit of private jet travel is the opportunity to take the pride and joy of the family with you in the main cabin.
Despite the fact that pets are often considered members of the family, the FAA classifies pets as cargo.   Generally this means they must be appropriately secured, most commonly in an animal carrier, during takeoff and landing for the safety to themselves and others.   International travel poses additional procedures and restrictions, and these may differ from one country to another.
Prior to booking your flight, inform your charter operator if you plan to travel with your pet.   They can check if there are any restrictions or requirements and ensure that the jet can accommodate your pet.
Some Helpful Tips:
•  If using a travel carrier for the first time, give your pet at least a month prior to your flight to become familiar with the carrier to minimize his or her stress during travel.
•  Talk with your veterinarian about prescription tranquilizers if you are considering sedating your pet during travel.   Make sure to specify it is for air travel.
•  Bring along a confirmation of your pets immunization (to verify a clean bill of health).

High traffic is inevitable at private airports during popular events or holiday seasons (think Super Bowl or winter in Aspen). With that in mind, we have put together some information and helpful tips to ensure that your private jet travel to bustling airports is both relaxing and stress-free.
"What is an STMP?"   Special Traffic Management Programs (STMP's) are implemented for special events that attract thousands of people and aircraft to participating airports. The FAA requires users to make arrival and departure reservations to and from these airports to manage the flow of arrivals and departures for these events.
"What is a slot time?"   Slot times refer to airports expecting high traffic volume due to special events or seasonal activity. Slot times are issued to stagger incoming flight traffic in order to relieve air traffic control duties. Slot time reservations are typically available 72 hours prior to the estimated time of arrival.
Private Jet Travel Tips:
•  Be flexible with your departure time requests. Allow a window for departure times. Slot times will not be assigned more than 72 hours in advance to the flight departure request.
•  Avoid changing flight dates & times.  Slot times are valuable and go quickly, so try to stick to your flight schedule to avoid conflicts.
•  Arrive on time.  Particularly in mountainous areas, weather can change rapidly. The closer you leave to your intended time, the better opportunity you have to guarantee your arrival time. So if your slot departure is 8am, please allow time for boarding so the jet will be ready and in position for an 8am departure.
